The fire service covering Dorset is looking for new on-call firefighters in the west of the county.

Charmouth Fire Station, based in Bridge Road, has opportunities for anyone available both during the week or at weekends.

It says it offers 'flexible contracts' on offer for those who work shift systems or have childcare responsibilities.

On-call firefighters live and/or work within the community and are expected to respond to emergencies during whatever periods of cover have been agreed when their pager goes off.

Next week, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service's recruitment team will be out in the west Dorset seaside village to encourage people to consider being an on-call firefighter, including drop-in sessions at the station between 10am and 12pm each weekday.

In addition, there will be a ‘have a go’ event in Bridge Road on Monday, January 30 between 7pm and 9pm.

Station manager Darren Masini said: “The role of a firefighter is very rewarding, and it requires determination and a genuine desire to serve the community.

"Successful candidates will become part of a well-trained workforce, earning additional income and gaining transferable skills."
