A MAN has been given a suspended jail sentence after admitting officers discovered around 50 cannabis plants at an address in Dorset.

Jason Richard Seward, whose address was given as Main Road, Mosterton appeared before Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, December 22 for sentencing.

Seward, 52, had previously pleaded guilty to two charges of being concerned in the production of a class B drug and being in possession of a class A drug (cocaine).

The charges were brought after police officers attended an address in the Mosterton area near Beaminster at around 12.20pm on June 21, 2022.

Officers carried out a search of the premises. In an outbuilding they reportedly located around 50 suspected cannabis plants as well as cash and a small amount of a suspected class A drug.

Seward received a nine month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to pay a £187 surcharge to fund victim services. He must also pay £85 in costs with the drugs and paraphernalia to be destroyed by police.

The defendant’s guilty plea was taken into account when imposing sentence.
