Santa and his team of helpers will visit towns in west Dorset on his sleigh to raise money for charity.

The Lyme Regis Charity Sleigh will be making the rounds through Lyme Regis, Uplyme and Charmouth.

On Sunday, December 11, he will be in Lyme, and again on Monday, December 12, before going to Charmouth on Tuesday, December 13. Starting at approximately 4pm each day.

Santa will interact with residents and have his picture taken on his journey through the towns, whilst raising money in the process.

Organised by Sarah and Neville Causley the sleigh moves through the streets blaring music so you can hear Santa approach with his reindeer, surrounded by festive lights and even a snow machine.

The sleigh aims to raise money whilst bringing festive cheer to local children and has been an annual tradition for 21 years.

Neville Causley said: “Some of the kids don’t get to bring the Santa very much, so we get to bring the Santa to them and it has become a big part of the Christmas build-up for Lyme Regis.

“We have been doing it for 21 years now. Basically, we moved to Seaton when the kids were little and they did one there, so when we came back to Lyme Regis we thought we would start one up.

“It is a really nice thing to do, we all need a bit of cheer in our lives at the moment, and this is a way of bringing.

“Thank you to the Lyme Regis Carnival Committee who donate towards the insurance, Sparkbrights who help with the music, Fowler Hire for the generator and everyone else who supports the sleigh.

This year money will be going to The Seaside Store - a community food hub.

In 2021 the sleigh raised £1,407 for the Woodroffe Schools Welfare project, and in 2020 raised £1,703 for the Lyme Regis Community Bingo Association and the local organisations they support.
