Three people and a dog were rescued by lifeboat teams after being cut off by the tide between Lyme Regis and Charmouth.

The Lyme Regis RNLI crew was launched on Tuesday to assist the coastguard rescue following reports that a group had been stranded.

Crews were called out at 3.30pm and swam ashore to help walk with the family - one adult, two children and a dog - back towards Lyme Regis where they were kept safe and dry.

The call out was initiated by a concerned member of the public and the adult casualty also called the coastguard when they realised that assistance was needed.

The RNLI warned visitors to be wary of tides with it being two days away from a full moon - when they are at their highest.

"Please check the tide times before heading out and if you see someone in trouble in or by the water, call 999 and ask for the coastguard," it said.

This was the 46th call for help answered by Lyme Regis RNLI volunteers so far this year.
