The much-anticipated Christmas lights switch-on is taking place this weekend in Lyme Regis.

An afternoon of festive fun will dominate the town today (Saturday, November 26).

Beginning at 2.30 pm a Christmas lantern workshop will challenge participants to make their best efforts.

Materials for the lanterns will be provided by the hosts at the Lyme Regis Baptist Church Pine Hall and the best lanterns from each age category will be nominated at 4.30pm by a team of judges.

Age categories include 0-4, 5-7, 8-11, 12+ and adults.

Following the judging, the lantern parade will make its way down Broad Street with an illuminated Carnival from around 5pm.

On its journey through Broad Street, the light fest will include the newly constructed lanterns as well as majorettes and Santa.

They will make their way to the Christmas tree at the Shambles/Bell Cliff which will be succeeded by the switch-on of the lights.

Christmas lights in Lyme are community funded, relying on the generosity of the local community and business sponsors and supporters.

Lyme Regis Christmas Lights Committee is a voluntary organisation motivated by the desire to ensure the town shines brightly at Christmas.
