People are being urged to take part in a monthly litter pick after a volunteer has spoken out about an 'horrific' amount of rubbish found washed up in West Bay.
Among the items picked up by volunteers at the most recent beach clean were five hypodermic syringes, angling lines, tampons and applicators.
A volunteer said that 10kgs of rubbish were recovered from West Beach, filling three bin bags.
She said she wished to warn people about the state of the beach.
"It's horrific, some of the stuff we've been finding this week.
"If people could keep an eye out for sharp things in the seaweed lines while walking along the beach, there have been hypodermic needles found that are believed to have been washed in from the sea.
"Volunteers have been busy picking this all up while wearing gloves and we've also found tampons and applicators."
Anyone is welcome to join the next monthly West Bay beach clean which will be on Sunday, November 20 from 10am to 12 noon. People should meet at the Watch House Café at East Beach.
The West Bay beach cleans are held on the third Sunday of each month.
