A three-bed self-build home with its own workshop and cart lodge is being proposed for a site south of Nutcombe Close, Charmouth.

A new planning application for the site, which is within the Conservation Area, has been lodged with Dorset Council in the name of Robinson Associates Construction Services Ltd of Wilmington, Devon.

A previous application for a three-bed home on the same site was approved in March 2018, but not built.

The new design smaller in scale and height than the previous application and with more green space on the site.

A design statement submitted with the application says “The principle materials are rustic/aged facing brick; natural timber cladding (stained/painted in a dark colour) and natural slate roofing. The cart lodge and workshop/boiler room are proposed to have elevations of natural timber cladding (stained/painted in a dark colour) to match the first-floor elevations of the main building.”

A report to the council says that a number of steps are being taken to make the proposed building as energy efficient as possible with the potential for solar panels along the south-facing roof.

“It is proposed that the property be as self-reliant upon power generation and storage of generated power as is practicable. Whilst a final solution has as yet to be decided it is proposed that the building will be run solely on electricity. Incorporated within the design is a small boiler room that is proposed to house battery storage, inverters and controls systems for the building. Provision is also proposed for the installation of an electric vehicle charging point.”

The application, Dorset Council reference 2022/06783, is open for public comment until December 9.
