Lyme Regis Town Council is relaunching the Gateway Card and encouraging local businesses to get involved.

The card, which was first introduced in 2017, was introduced to provide discounts to local people at local businesses.

The scheme is still active, however businesses have come and gone in the last five years and the card was in need of a comeback.

It is hoped the Gateway Card can be relaunched before Christmas to help give businesses a boost during the festive season and offer shoppers some Christmas bargains.

The card comes in two designs, created by pupils at Woodroffe School and St Michael's Primary School, and these designs have been retained.

Cllr Cheryl Reynolds, chairman of the council's Tourism, Community and Publicity Committee, said: "We hope as many local businesses as possible will decide to participate in the scheme and offer discounts and special offers to local residents.

"The aim is to reward local residents and to support local businesses by encouraging local shopping whenever possible.

"Many households will be struggling at the moment so any help we can give them, especially before Christmas, would be very welcome."

The town council contributes its share of bargains by offering 10% discount on beach hut bookings, a 50% discount on Weddings at the Guildhall and a 50% discount on mini golf, table tennis and the putting green.

Participating businesses will be encouraged to regularly update their offers to help attract new customers.

All businesses who do take part will be advertised on the council's website.

The council will also promote a 'Gateway Business of the Week' and their latest offers on its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

Businesses will be encouraged to tailor their offers to the seasons or local events, so special offers over Christmas and Easter are encouraged.

The Gateway Card will be posted to everyone on the Lyme Regis electoral register.

Anyone not on the register, including under 18s, can obtain a card from the council office with proof of a Lyme Regis address.

The new Gateway Card does not extend to Uplyme residents.
