A man was reportedly assaulted in Bridport town centre at the weekend.
Police were called to East Street shortly after 9.35pm on Saturday.
Officers attended and carried out searches of the area but, according to a police spokesman, the male offender was not found.
Two police cars were at the scene and officers were seen talking to bar security staff about half an hour later.
They say enquiries into the matter are ongoing and that the victim is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.
