West Dorset will today hold Remembrance Sunday processions to commemorate those who lost their lives in conflicts.
Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis are expecting a significant turn-out for the commemorations and will observe a two minute silence.
BRIDPORT
The parade will move off from East Street at approximately 10.40am.
Accompanied by the Wessex Military Band the mayor, Cllr Ian Bark, will lead the parade.
Cllr Bark will then lay a wreath as part of the ceremony before attendees fall silent for the traditional observance of the two-minute silence.
It is anticipated that a significant number will want to attend, and organisers are encouraging people to respect the safety of others by not attending if they have any flu or Covid symptoms.
Town centre road closures will be in place for the parade from 10.30am until approximately 12pm.
Residents and visitors to the town centre are asked not to park in the vicinity of St Mary’s Church after 8am on the morning of Sunday, November 13.
BEAMINSTER
There are two scheduled events in Beaminster.
On Friday, November 11, the two minute silence can be observed at the war memorial in Beaminster town square.
Following this event, Fleet Club - on Fleet Street - will be hosting a coffee and cake morning with funds being shared between the Poppy Appeal and All Callsigns.
On Remembrance Sunday a parade led by Yeovilton Volunteer Band will parade down Hogshill Street at 2.30 pm and march around The Square allowing attendees to salute the memorial.
Following the parade there will be a Remembrance Service at 3pm in St. Mary’s Church, Beaminster.
One of the organisers of the parade said: "Everyone is invited to come along to watch the Parade and join the commemorations.
"Thank you to Councillor Nigel Corbett and the town council team for the excellent job that they have done dressing the Town's War Memorial."
Lyme Regis
Lyme will mark Remembrance Sunday with a parade through the town, leading to St Michael's Parish Church for a service of remembrance.
Members of the Lyme Regis branch of the Royal British Legion, veterans and members of the Armed Forces will make up the parade, joined by the civic party including the mayor and mace bearers.
The parade leaves Langmoor Gate at 10.30am. The church service is followed by a gathering at the war memorial in Georges Square.
