Volunteers joined workers at a holiday park near Bridport to take part in a beach clean.

The team consisting of volunteers and members of West Bay Holiday Park clubbed together on Saturday, September 24 as part of the Great British Clean which was run by the Marine Conservation Society to aid conservation work to keep seas clean.

The data collected will help further the Marine Conservation Society’s conservation work, and will also be included in the International Coastal Clean-up.

Over the last year, Parkdean resorts collected a shocking 124.5 bags of litter made up of 5,748 pieces of litter and weighing in at a total of 230.1kg, or more than 500 lbs.

Sarah Davies, Corporate Development Manager, Marine Conservation Society, commented: “We are grateful to Parkdean for once again taking part in the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean.

"Every volunteer makes a difference by removing litter that would otherwise end up in the sea and potentially harm wildlife.

"The data collected at the end of each clean-up supports us to campaign for and implement positive change to protect our ocean; including plastic bag charges and better wet wipe labelling.”

Earlier this year, the holiday company launched 25 commitments that it hopes to achieve by 2025, across Environment, Society and Governance, including attracting and developing diverse talent, reducing CO2 by 25%, a 75% reduction in waste to landfill, and the publication of an annual report detailing how it will care for its Parks, People and Planet.

As part of these commitments, the company is working on creating a blueprint for two Sustainable Parks in Dorset – Warmwell and Sandford, with successful initiatives to be rolled out in future across other parks within its estate.
