IT WAS a summer packed with activities and food at Bridport Youth Centre.

The youth centre offered children aged 7-13 who attended a hot meal and fun activities ranging from art sessions, recycling workshops and sports activities.

The children had the opportunity to take part in a succession of non-competitive games, Ukulele workshops and a series of creative workshops.

Kelvin Clayton, the Chair of BYCC said: “We are delighted to have been able to offer such a great range of activities to the young people of Bridport again this summer.

“My thanks must go to Waitrose for their generous grant of £1,000, to Dorset Council for their continuing support, and to our great team of youth workers for making it all work.”

Heather Marston, the Youth Manager for the centre who had devised the programme said: “I was so grateful to the local restaurants who offered us food for the children, they made the most delicious meals.

“Andy Tyrell of Soulshine, Ilaria Padovani of Mercato Italiano and Tortilla Cantina all brought meals that the children really relished.

“No meal is perfect without a dessert and Annie Hanbury of Baboo Gelato turned up with ice creams for them all every day - We were grateful to Bridget’s Market who supplied fresh fruit at cost price which the children really appreciated.”

This autumn, Bridport Youth Centre plan to run a similar list of activities for the older and younger groups, there will be workshops about bullying, kick boxing, giant games, work in wood and Halloween decoration workshops followed by a Halloween party.

Mike Bennett, CEO of Dorset Youth Association, recently visited the Youth Centre and said: "Bridport Youth and Community Centre is a fantastic and much needed space for young people, Heather Marston and Gemma Thorpe have an amazing group of staff and wonderful volunteers that run very structured youth club sessions to meet the needs of many young people. The young people and parents I met are very pleased with the opportunities they offer.”

There are three youth clubs held at the centre that take place on Wednesdays and Fridays open for those in year 3 to year 13 with entry ranging from £1 to £1.50 depending on the group and to find out more, visit: https://www.bridportycc.com/whats-on.
