THE date for Lyme's big Christmas lights switch-on has been revealed.

Christmas is when the Lyme community pulls out all the stops to create an impressive festive lights display with the wow factor.

And this year will be no different, with fun events leading up to the big switch-on and people urged to dig deep to support the Christmas Lights Committee through a grand raffle.

The town will usher in the festive season with the switching on of the Christmas lights on Saturday, November 26.

It promises to be a fun packed event for all the family, drawing in crowds of locals and visitors to the town.

The event starts with the lantern-making workshop at the Pine Hall, Lyme Regis Baptist Church, at 2pm.

This is a free event and prizes will be awarded for the best lanterns in each age category with judging taking place at 4pm. Lanterns made at home can be entered into the competition, just come along to the Baptist Church for 4.15pm.

There will be different age categories: 0-4, 5-7, 8-11, 12+ and adults.

The lantern parade will make its way down Broad Street from around 5pm, joined by Lyme Regis Majorettes, Santa, the Mayor, and the town crier.

This illuminated carnival will make its way to the Christmas tree at The Shambles for the switch on at around 5.30pm.

Lyme’s Christmas lights are community funded, relying on the generosity of the local community and business sponsors and supporters.

Lyme Regis Christmas Lights Committee is a voluntary organisation motivated by the desire to ensure the town shines brightly at Christmas.

The group works tirelessly throughout the year to organise and raise funding for the annual festive lights display. The committee is dedicated to putting on a display the town can be proud of.

People can support the fund by entering the town's grand raffle to be in with a chance to win a great prize - the first prize is £300 in cash and the fourth is a three course meal for two at the Alexandra Hotel in Lyme Regis. Tickets cost £1.
