THE ambulance service has warned that it is "very busy" across the county and have reminded residents to only ring 999 in life threatening emergencies.

South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (SWASFT) took to social media to share a number of reminders of how people can help themselves after minor incidents.

They advised that there are a number of alternatives to ringing 999 - including going straight to a pharmacy, booking a GP appointment, calling 111 or visiting a minor injuries unit.

A spokesperson for SWASFT said: "Our staff and NHS colleagues are working really hard to keep you all safe.

"Please help them by only dialling 999 in a genuine, life-threatening emergency."
