RAIL passengers are being reminded to only travel "if absolutely necessary" as services buckle up for the latest round of strike action.

Aslef, RMT and Unite all plan to take industrial action between Saturday, October 1 and Saturday, October 8 with the TSAA union supporting with "action short of a strike".

The action will be the latest in a series of strikes to have hit rail commuters over the past few months.

Trades unions will walk out on Saturday 1, Wednesday 5, Thursday 6, Friday 7, and Saturday 8 October.

Services run by both Great Western Railway and South Western Railway will be affected.

There will be no SWR trains running between Weymouth and London Waterloo on Saturday, October 1 with services on the Sunday "starting much later than usual".

SWR routes will be unaffected by the ASLEF strike on October 5 with announcements about service levels for the remaining strike days to be made closer to the time.

A spokesperson for SWR said: "Please only travel if absolutely necessary during this period.

"If you have to travel, please check your train times as close to your journey as possible.

"We are sorry for the disruption this will cause."

There will be no GWR trains running between Weymouth and Bristol Temple Meads on October 1 and 5. Full details over services on October 6 and 7 are to be announced though it is expected to be "very limited" and not include routes to and from Weymouth.

A spokesperson for GWR said: "Train services will be severely disrupted and some parts of the GWR network will have no train service at all. Train services on the days following the industrial action will also be disrupted.

Passengers are advised to find alternative ways to travel on these days. Only travel by train if absolutely necessary.

"The majority of train services will not operate and there will be no services on many routes"
