SHOPS across Bridport have been displaying touching tributes to the Queen in their store windows.

During a period of national mourning following the news of the Queen’s passing, once again the Bridport community have come together, with local businesses across the town changing their window displays to feature images of the Queen.

Lorna Halsey, one of the joint supervisors at the RSPCA charity shop in West Street created a lovely colourful tribute to the Queen with a red white and blue theme, white flowers with two Union flags alongside.

She said: “I wanted to do something not as sombre as everyone else; the Queen was such a colourful lady and I wanted to reflect that.

“I had my 89-year-old mum with me who is not far off the Queen’s age, and she helped me choose the photos and it was quite nice that I had her help.”

YMCA charity shop assistant manager Charlie Davison created a beautiful display of four framed photos of the Queen from her early years to her more recent years on top of a Union flag tablecloth in the West Street premises.

Lou Barron, manager of YMCA Bridport said: “We are very pleased with our display, all of the YMCA shops in the country did a tribute and ours is simple yet effective - we have had really good feedback.”

Sue Ryder in West Street went for a similar approach, displaying a framed black and white image of the Queen that they had been donated that day.

Shop manager Kelly Russell said: “With everything that has happened, we wanted to pay our respects.

“We had a scrapbook come in that day as a donation with pictures of the Queen and it was the perfect opportunity – There were lots of pictures of her and Prince Philip on their wedding day as well.”

Higos Insurance Brokers in Eas Street had a whole window collage display of the late Queen.

Keira Tate who works at Higos said: “We wanted to show our respect and we have had a lot of people stop to look at it.”

President of the Bridport Business Chamber Rob Muhl said: “I was pleased to see the businesses of Bridport coming together and decorating their shop windows with tributes to our much-beloved late Queen.”

He added: “I hope this feeling of working together will continue into the future, as we all need to support each other in times of difficulty.”

Mr Muhl was also in attendance at the Proclamation of the succession of King Charles III given by the Mayor, Cllr Ian Bark in Bucky Doo Square, which he described as ‘a very moving experience.’
