Two people are in hospital and the A35 remains closed after a 'serious crash'.

Emergency services were called to the A35 Dorchester Road to reports of a multi-vehicle crash just before 2.45pm.

Two vehicles were involved in a collision near to the junction with White Way.

Both sides of the A35 were closed for almost an hour and a half before the Eastbound carriageway re-opening shortly before 4.15pm.

The Westbound side of the road remained closed for just under five hours: re-opening at 7.39pm.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 14.42hrs to a road traffic incident on the A35 in Dorset. We sent three double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer and an air ambulance. At the time of writing we have conveyed two patients via land ambulance to Dorset County Hospital.”

"Officers in attendance with ambulance. The road is closed between Winterbourne Abbas and Litton Cheney."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 2.45pm on Wednesday 14 September 2022 to a report of a two vehicle collision on the A35 near to the junction with White Way."

In an update on Dorset Council's live travel site, issued at 5.06pm, they said: "A35 Dorchester Road Westbound closed due to serious accident, two vehicles involved from Long Bredy turn off (Kingston Russell) to West Compton turn off (Askerswell).

"Traffic is coping well. Congestion to traffic diverting through Maiden Newton by The Chalk and Cheese Pub.

"Westbound has now closed before 16:15 and will be closed for a while until investigations are completed as well, affecting traffic towards Bridport."
