Residents are reminded that there is an opportunity to pay their respects to the Queen following her death and leave a tribute by signing a book of condolence in Bridport.

A book has been opened for residents to sign at Bridport Town Hall.

The nation has entered a period of mourning following the death of Elizabeth II who died at Balmoral last Thursday aged 96.

The Queen's coffin will make a poignant journey to Buckingham Palace today ahead of the lying in state at Westminster Hall from tomorrow.

The Queen's state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey at 11am on Monday, September 19.

The Bridport book of condolence will be available to sign this week, Monday to Friday from 9am-6pm. It will not be available on the day of the funeral, Monday, September 19, but will be available to sign the day after from 9am-5pm.

Lift access is through the Bridport Tourist Information Centre which will remain open until 6pm (Mon-Fri) this week.

For those unable to visit in person who would like to express written condolences, these should be sent to the Town Clerk, Bridport Town Council, Mountfield, Rax Lane, Bridport DT6 3JP, or email enquiries@bridport-tc.gov.uk

Meanwhile, on Thursday, September 15 at 6.30pm there be Civic Service at St Mary’s Church, Bridport. All are welcome to attend.

Union Flags at the Town Hall, Mountfield, and Bridport Cemetery are flying at half mast.

A number of floral tributes have already been placed in Bucky Doo Square (above) - the recommended place to leave tributes.

Mayor of Bridport Cllr Ian Bark said: "On behalf of the town of Bridport I offer our sincerest condolences to the Royal Family at this difficult time, and our deepest gratitude for Her Majesty’s lifelong service as the mother of our nation."
