WEST Dorset's MP said constituents are 'baffled' by the way renewable energy prices are regulated.

Chris Loder first gave a 'warm welcome' to new Prime Minister Lix Truss, who he backed during the leadership race, during her first Prime Minister's Questions today.

The Conservative MP asked about energy suppliers providing renewable electricity and said his constituents are “baffled that the energy regulator allows those prices to rise on par with oil and gas”.

He asked if she is “on the side of the consumer”.

Ms Truss said: “I certainly am on the side of consumer. And we need to make sure that we deal with all of the issues in the energy market and the way that energy is regulated. And I will certainly be saying more about this tomorrow.”

At her first PMQs, Ms Truss confirmed that she will be setting out a plan on Thursday to save households and businesses from financial ruin as a result of soaring energy bills by freezing household bills at around £2,500.

She rejected the idea of using a windfall tax on the bumper profits made by oil and gas giants to fund the package, reported to cost up to £150 billion.
