RESCUERS endured rain, thunder and lightning to help free a cow which had become trapped in a lagoon.

The fire service received a call at 5.41pm on Monday, September 5, to rescue a cow in Glanville's Wooton.

On arrival, crews from Sherborne and Poole found the cow 'very stuck' in the water and at risk of submerging itself.

Using a large telehandler, firefighters were able to strap the cow up to successfully lift it out of the lagoon.

A spokesman for Sherborne Fire Station said: "One crew were mobilised alongside crews from Poole Fire Station Tech Rescue Team to a cow that had become trapped within a lagoon.

"On arrival it was clear the cow was very stuck and at risk of submerging itself in the depth of the lagoon.

"The specialist tech rescue team got to work straight away getting the cow strapped and ready for a lift rescue. Another local farmer provided a large Telehandeler which was vital for the lift. As night fell crews endured rain, thunder and lightning but managed to carry out a successful rescue; the cow returning back to its field.

"Crews returned to station at 8.40pm."
