FIREFIGHTERS raced to a house fire after a tea towel was left on a hob.

Crews were called to a property fire on Pymore Road in Bridport at 2.51pm on Tuesday, September 6, after a neighbour heard a smoke alarm and saw smoke issuing from a window.

After forcing entry into the property, crews found the tea towel on fire on the kitchen hob, which they removed.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "Both pumps mobilised to a property fire on Pymore Road after a neighbour heard a smoke alarm and upon investigation saw smoke issuing from a window.

"Crews forced entry into the property and found slight smoke logging. Two breathing apparatus crews entered the property and found a tea towel on fire on the kitchen hob. This was extinguished by removal.

"A PPV (positive pressure ventilation) fan was used to ventilate the property. Always ensure flammable materials are not left on or near hot surfaces."
