AN electrical fire left a hospital and surrounding areas without power after a high voltage pylon went up in flames.

Firefighters were called to the incident behind Bridport Hospital shortly before 2am this morning (August 12).

A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said: “Both pumps from Bridport were mobilised to an electrical fire at the rear of Bridport hospital. On arrival crews found one high voltage pylon arcing and on fire. This also caused vegetation below the pylon to catch fire.

“Crews extinguished the vegetation fire and requested the attendance of Western Power Distribution to isolate the pylon. Power was interrupted at the hospital and the local area.
