It's been a busy week so far in Lyme Regis with the return of the RNLI's Lifeboat Week - and there's plenty more to come.

The event kicked off with an opening ceremony at the lifeboat station on Saturday.

Day two saw a large selection of events take place from breakfast, displays and book sales.

A promising start to the day saw around 250 bacon baps sold by the lifeboat crew at breakfast time on the lifeboat station slipway.

The Weymouth and Portland model boat group set up a display during the day and there were thousands of books on sale in the boathouse at the lifeboat station which on the first day brought in donations of £800 and a lucky dip proved very popular with prizes of snacks, water or wine.

Not just a week of events as eight-year-old Isabelle Makepeace gave up her favourite snack to help raise money for the RNLI.

The young girl from Luton regularly visits Lyme Regis with her family and gave up sweets for three weeks, raising £74 which she presented to husband-and-wife lifeboat crew members Brian and Joe Street whilst on holiday in the town.

Isabelle said: “We love coming to Lifeboat Week and I did not miss eating sweets for three weeks, I raised my donation from adults because I did not think it was fair to ask my young friends.”

The ever-popular bathtub race drew in large crowds, starting from the beach and finishing at Lyme Regis Harbour, this year’s winners were members of the youth section of Lyme Regis Sailing Club.

Second place went to the local firefighters and coming in at their highest ever position of third was the RNLI lifeboat.

Day three offered a beach treasure hunt and a pavement art competition with a number of Ukranian children who are staying with local families taking part.

Seven-year-old Mariia from Ukraine won the pavement art competition for those aged 5-7, she has only been in the town for two weeks.

There was also a crab fishing competition at the harbour, with 72 young people taking place, the winning crab measured 99mm and the smallest crab measured just 15.6mm.

A grand auction raised over £1000 for the charity on the fifth day with both online and live bidding.

Today sees the return of huge crowd pleasers the Red Devils.
