THE National Trust has announced the launch of a running event that culminates with breath-taking views at the south coast’s highest point.

The new monthly running event has been launched at Stonebarrow on the Golden Cap Estate in West Dorset. The Trust10 is a free 10km event aimed at encouraging people to get outdoors, explore special places and take up a new challenge.

The route has been devised in the shape of a figure of eight so runners can choose to do half the circuit, which is 5km, or do the full 10km loop which takes runners to the summit of Golden Cap with views across the south coast.

Elizabeth Flight, Partnership and Programming Officer for North and West Dorset, said: “We’re really excited to be taking on the Trust10 here at Stonebarrow, it will be a great opportunity for people to have a regular goal each month, as well as a chance to explore this special place.

“We want as many people to enjoy their local environment as possible, so as well as hosting the Trust10 each month, the route itself will be open to all runners throughout the year.”

The Trust10 will be held on the fourth Sunday of each month, with the next event taking place on August 28. The run starts at 9am but runners are asked to arrive by 8.50am for the briefing.

A spokesperson for The National Trust said: “Our free monthly 10k trail runs are a great way to blow away the cobwebs, get some exercise and take in the spectacular scenery. It doesn’t matter if you’re training for a challenge or looking for a sociable jog in the fresh air, join us on the fourth Sunday of every month.

“National Trust running and Trust10 is all about enjoying the experience of running at the Beautiful places in our care, so if monitoring your running time is important to you, please remember to bring your own timing device.”

Parking is available at Stonebarrow car park, DT6 6SD and participants should meet by the Old Radar Station which will be marked with a Trust10 flag. The Crazy Cow coffee trailer will be open for refreshments from 9am.
