A FOOTBALL club was broken into following a spate of anti-social behaviour targeting the club.

Lyme Regis Football Club on Charmouth Road said that it was broken into on Friday, July 22, and that cash was taken.

The club made an appeal on its social media for witnesses following the break-in after cash, chocolate and crisps had been taken from the premises.

Speaking to the News, vice-chair of the club, Francesca Evans, said: “Someone went up to the club kitchen on the weekend and saw that the window had been forced open.”

She said that inside the kitchen, a locked cupboard had been forced open and a cash box with £200 had been taken. Money was also said to be taken from charity boxes for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Lyme Regis Youth Causes.

The club will now be increasing its security and will no longer be keeping money on the premises overnight to prevent any similar incidents.

Ms Evans added: “I can confirm the break-in at the football club was sometime after 8pm on Friday night.

“This comes after a spate of anti-social behaviour at the club, including skateboarding on the roof, smashed glass found on our paths, our outdoor chairs being stolen and found burnt nearby, and a gazebo being pulled down and damaged beyond repair the night before our Sausage & Cider Festival earlier this month.

“We are increasing our security and installing CCTV at the club, and no cash will now be left on the premises overnight – just to hopefully avoid any further incidents.”

The club said that the incident has been reported to police, however, did not receive a crime reference number. When contacted Dorset Police said it could not find the incident on its logs.
