A significant amount of damage was caused after a bonfire was left unattended and allowed to spread.
Charmouth firefighters were called to an unattended bonfire on Tuesday.
Unsupervised, it had started to spread into the surrounding treeline.
A spokesman for the fire station said: "This could have caused a very significant fire had it not been reported by a member of the public and dealt with quickly.
"Although the fire looked to be made up of garden waste, underneath it was found to be burning commercial waste including insulation material, aerosols and gas canisters.
"The owner of the site was reminded of his duty to dispose of waste properly and advised not to have any more bonfires especially when conditions are so dry."
