BRIDPORT will make the finishing touches to their summer of preparations when they visit Banwell for their final pre-season friendly on Saturday (6pm).

Somerset County Division Two side Banwell sit three divisions beneath the Bees in what is the 13th tier of English football.

And Bridport boss Edgar Marcu will focus on giving minutes to players in need of topping up their fitness ahead of their South West Peninsula League Premier East opener at Ivybridge next Saturday (3pm).

He told the Bridport News: “That’s the last game, we’ll have a week of training and then we’ll start playing for points.

“It’s the last chance to see some players. I have a big picture about the first XI for the season but I’m going to give minutes to players I didn’t use too much previously.

“I’m looking to see these players more. It will be tough because when the season will start we can (only) select 16 players, with five subs.

“It will be a small number compared to the squad. All the hard stuff will start because I’ll have to leave some players out.

“In a way I’m happy because I have loads of players to choose from, but on the other hand I’m not because I have to disappoint some players by not playing them. That’s football.”

Matteus da Silva, Lewis Howe and Mo Hereka are all absent for the Banwell trip.

Bridport’s previous three friendlies created the full spectrum of results.

Radu Bogdan and Callum Arnold were on target in a 2-0 win over Radstock, before Portland United claimed a 2-0 victory courtesy of Ryan McKechnie and Liam Sayers goals.

And on Tuesday evening Bridport earned a 1-1 draw with Westland Sports, Bogdan cancelling out Steve Ormrod’s penalty.
