POLICE are appealing for information after a woman in her 80s was hit by a van.

The incident happened at around 1.50pm on Saturday, July 2, as the lady was crossing High East Street.

She was struck by a van - causing her to go up the bonnet before landing on the pavement - and had to seek medical treatment for a fracture.

The van driver stopped at the scene but failed to provide adequate details to the injured party.

Officers investigating are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police Sergeant Geraint Butler, of the road traffic unit, said: “I appreciate that some time has passed since the collision. Unfortunately, it was only reported to police around a week after it happened.

“However, it occurred during a busy time of the day when many people would have been in town and I hope that somebody might still remember seeing the collision.

“I would ask anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken with police to please come forward.

“In particular, I would like to hear from a man who came to the scene from a nearby camping shop and a man and a woman who were also in the vicinity with their two daughters as they may have information that could assist my investigation.”
