OVER the last seven months of political turbulence, I have been very much aware of the strength of feeling people have held over the issue of the Prime Minister’s leadership. And with a variety of views held too.

The leadership election has at least allowed us to move on and reflect on the issues that matter and what future we wish to see for our country. By the time you see this, a ballot will have already taken place for the leadership contest.

We have been very lucky in the Conservative Party to operate in a meritocracy, and this shows through clearly when we have so many great candidates coming forward to stand to lead their country and their party. After much consideration, I voted for Liz Truss yesterday. I believe Liz has the delivery credentials and straight talking commitment for action that is fundamentally needed to move this country forward.

Throughout the course of this contest, my considerations first and foremost are who would be in the best interests of West Dorset. This is why I have launched an online survey on my website to allow people to express their thoughts with me, of who they wish to see lead our country and what issues matter most to them when it comes to who leads the country.

And of course, the work I do in Westminster for West Dorset does not stop even amidst the current political storm. Last week for example, I spoke out in Education Questions, pressing the (then) Minister for School Standards on the need for Government support to help Dorchester Middle School get the infrastructural upgrades it needs. All the while Government and Parliament continues to operate up to the Summer Recess, my priority and workstreams remain focused on the needs of West Dorset.
