BRIDPORT boss Edgar Marcu admitted he expected a drubbing against Weymouth but took plenty of positives from the contest – despite losing 10-0.

Marcu watched on as Brad Ash scored a brace and Tom Bearwish netted a hat-trick, adding to five goals from triallists.

Bridport had little to shout about in the contest, but did make Weymouth’s trialist keeper spill a corner in the first half.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Marcu said: “First of all, I’d like to say thanks to Weymouth for accepting playing with us.

“I knew what to expect. At half-time I mentioned to the boys just enjoy yourself, there’s nothing I expect from this game.

“That’s the difference from professional and semi-professional footballers. We take the positives.

“It was a very good test. This is a pre-season friendly, trying to play stronger teams and build.

“It was a real positive game for us. I’ve seen moments in the game where we can pass the ball against a National League South side.

“I wanted to play football and we’ve done that. That’s really encouraging.”

In their next pre-season assignment, Bridport visit Radstock Town tomorrow (7.45pm).

Marcu played down the meeting with his former side, for whom he only managed a handful of games.

He said: “I wouldn’t call it my old club, I’ve been there for three fixtures.

“It will be nice obviously to see some old faces there but that’s a game I’m expecting something from.

“We will show something, definitely. You can’t compare (Radstock to Weymouth), it’s another story.”

Asked what he is looking to see in the Radstock game, he said: “Impact – and I will see it, 100 per cent.”

Harley Brook and Callum Smalley (groin) are the only injury doubts for Bridport.
