EXTREME heat could cause a "potential danger to life", as the Met Office extend their amber weather warning for another day.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for "exceptionally high temperatures" and extended the warning from midnight on Sunday, July 17, until 11.59pm on Tuesday, July 19.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said the high temperatures posed a real risk to people and the environment.

The spokesperon said: "Population-wide adverse health effects are likely to be experienced, not limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to potential serious illness or danger to life. Government advice is that 999 services should be used in emergencies only; seek advice from 111 if you need non-emergency health advice".

The Met Office forecasts rising temperatures over the weekend with peaks likely on Monday and Tuesday.

They expect to see "exceptionally high temperatures" during both day and night and have warned "substantial changes in daily routines (is) likely to be required".

According to some forecasts, areas of inland Dorset may experience temperatures as high as 35C.
