In response to Chris Loder’s column: Quite frankly I would love to have railways ‘fit for purpose’ however there are two very serious issues that need prior attention.
1. The NHS has to be overhauled to become ‘fit for purpose’, so that the money continually poured into it is used properly, and not, as for decades, wasted.
2. Our police forces are not ‘fit for purpose’ as the relentless growth in anti-social behaviour, and criminality including the drug trade clearly show. Penalties handed down are INCENTIVES, not deterrents any more.
I spoke to a magistrate, of 30 years, and he said “I am sick and tired of criminals and re-offenders leaving court smiling, and often laughing.”
