Get set - an event billed as the 'south west's premier fell run' takes place this weekend.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Charmouth Challenge and Fun Run and is the first organised since 2019 due to the pandemic.

It will be held on Saturday, July 2.

The Charmouth Challenge is a chip timed 8-mile fell run for those 18 and over. It is a hilly multi-terrain course through some of the finest scenery on the Jurassic Coast and includes an ascent of Golden Cap.

The Fun Run is a 2-mile run taking in Stonebarrow Hill. One adult can accompany up to three children aged 7 years and under. Children aged 8 years and above can run unaccompanied.

The Charmouth Challenge is the main fundraiser for the village primary school. The event enjoys the valued support of the whole village and runners come from far and wide to participate.

Official road closures are in place and have been approved by Dorset Council. They can be viewed here: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/travel/travel-dorset/roadworks-road-closures?

There will also be a summer fair held at the Charmouth Primary School on the day from 10.30am until 1.30pm. This will have stalls, bouncy castle, bar, barbecue and lots of other activities along with a visit from a fire engine which traditionally hoses down the runners at the finish line.
