FIRE crews across Dorset are raising awareness for marginalised people.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Rescue Service (DWFRS) is urging people across the county to contact the emergency service to do a 'Safe & Well' visit.

A visit involves firefighters attending a person's home who falls under criteria which includes living alone, elderly and upwards of 65 and over, care and support needs, reduced mobility, or hoarding and mental health issues.

DWFRS Safe & Well manager Vikki Thomas said: "Safe & Well is a completely free service, which helps to keep our communities safe in their homes.

"We start with a phone call to the householder, or their representative, to identify whether any specific equipment may be of help.

"An advisor will then arrange a home visit at a convenient time, to identify any fire risks and install things like smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors."
