A running event for youngsters has hits its milestone 10th event - and the competitors hit a few records of their own.

Cobb Gate Junior Parkrun launched in Lyme Regis in February and has been hailed a great success since it started, with the numbers taking part growing as word spreads.

Junior Parkrun is a free, weekly, 2km walk, jog or run for four to 14-year-olds that is open to all and safe and easy to take part in.

It takes place every Sunday at 9am, starting just below the Marine Theatre and taking in two laps of the sea wall.

Around 300 people have took part since its launch and there has been an incredible 74 personal best times.

The Easter bunny was the special guest at Easter and at the 10th event which took place on Fossil Festival weekend the special guests were three dinosaurs.

One was the tail walker, following the youngsters all the way around the course, while the other two dinosaurs saw the athletes across the finish line.

Being chased by a dinosaur must have helped the runners as the top three finishers all smashed the course record of 7 minutes and 41 seconds and each achieved a personal best.

First across the line was Oscar Purchase (7 mins 33 sec) followed by Jonah Hearn (7 mins 34 sec) and Jonathan Galvin Mayes (7 mins 38 sec).

It was a weekend of double firsts for the fourth-place finisher Lyra Webb (8 mins 20 sec) and was the first female in both Cobb Gate Junior Parkrun and in Seaton Parkrun the day before.

Run director Adrianne Mullins said: “It has been a pleasure to watch young runners taking part each week, challenging themselves, having fun and setting new personal records.

“Our army of volunteers is also growing and we all get a real satisfaction out of supporting this great event and being part of the Parkrun family.

“Thank you to all the young athletes who come and give it their all and to everyone who has supported us so far.”
