A WARNING has been issued to the Dorset public about swimming in the sea amid warmer weather.

HM Coastguard is issuing a warning across the county about the dangers of 'cold water shock' for those wanting to take the plunge over the end of spring and into the summer period.

A spokesman from HM Coastguard said: "If you are heading to the coast, we’d urge people to take extra care before taking a plunge.

"The water is still cool enough to bring on cold water shock, which can become very serious.

"This can incur risks including organ failure and drowning.

"It's also crucial to check the wind, weather and tides before setting out and observe local safety advice."

Remember, if anybody is in trouble in the water, do not hesitate to call 999 Coastguard.
