PUPILS got creative when they took on a museum challenge to draw a a portrait of themselves as ‘their best selves’.

Youngsters at Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School and Community Nursery in Weymouth enthusiastically drew and painted portraits of themselves following the challenge from the Museum of East Dorset.

Portrait drawing was just one of the many activities organised by the school on Raising Aspirations Day.

A whole school event was held to inspire and encourage pupils to consider future careers.

Children spent time researching different job roles which challenged different stereotypes and enjoyed dressing up as their future dream job role.

School staff were delighted to be informed that Year 1 pupil Brooke Saunders’ portrait of herself as an artist was chosen as one of the winning pictures to be displayed in the Museum of East Dorset.

Teacher Lydia Duff, who organised the Raising Aspirations Day said: "As a school we got immersed in exploring job roles and raising children's hope and dreams.

"We all got dressed as a job role we aspire to be, and five volunteers talked to children about their jobs. "One of the real highlights was learning about the job of an NHS librarian who arranged a pass the parcel interactive detective game with a Year 6 class."

Pupils and parents alike gave much positive feedback following the event, which promoted conversations about a wider range of career opportunities that children may not have otherwise considered.
