MORE details have emerged about a creative arts event coming up which has been funded as part of the celebrations to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

As reported, the Burrough Harmony Centre - Bridport's mental health hub - is among the recipients of funding from the Arts Council’s Let’s Create Jubilee Fund distributed by Dorset Community Foundation - ensuring that creativity plays an important role in local community celebrations.

The centre is receiving a grant of £2,980 and is putting on an event called Around the Mind in 80 days at Bridport Arts Centre on Tuesday, June 21.

It has been developed by members of the Burrough Harmony Centre in collaboration with Bridport Arts Centre and several local artists, writers and storytellers. Through creative writing and art workshops the staff and members will produce their own stories and art to express the emotions and feeling of people with mental health challenges. The programme of short stories, poetry and artwork to be showcased will be open to all and will raise the profile of mental health during the jubilee year.

Burrough Harmony trustee Ali Cliffe said ‘We are delighted that the Arts Council supported us with the funding and everyone is so excited about developing this project. It’s a great opportunity for members of Harmony to showcase their skills and articulate the challenges they face. I think we are in for a really good evening."

Darren Henley, Chief Executive at Arts Council England said “The Let’s Create Jubilee Fund is a wonderful example of our ambition to give everyone the opportunity to participate in and experience the arts, culture and creativity. I’m excited to see these projects brought to life in villages, towns and cities across the country as our wonderfully creative communities celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”

Tickets for ‘Around the Mind in 80 days’ will be available from Bridport Arts Centre and the TIC.
