Open top buses will be back running along the Jurassic Coast this summer.

They include the popular Jurassic Coaster X52 bus running from Monkey World to Weymouth and Bridport via Bovington Tank Museum, Lulworth, Abbotsbury and West Bay.

Meanwhile, Service 501 known as the Portland Coaster is an open top bus from Weymouth to Portland Bill.

There will also be more frequent services on other routes as First Wessex’s new summer timetable begins on Sunday, May 29.

Jurassic Coasters X52, X54 and 501 will run daily and with increased frequency during the summer, along with the 503 (Waterside) and the 502 (Littlesea). The Jurassic Coaster X53/X51 combined hourly service will continue and other First Wessex services will remain unchanged with no services cut or reduced.

The X52, as well as the X53 (Weymouth-Axminster) and the 502 will stop at the new bus stops at the Weymouth railway station forecourt.

Service 1 (Portland) and the 501 (Portland Bill) will stop at a new bus stop opposite the station on King Street.

Richard Gagg, operations manager at First Wessex, said: “We are delighted to unveil our new summer timetable which will see our open topper Jurassic Coaster X52 service back on the road and more frequent services on other routes. We’re also excited about the completion of the new station forecourt at Weymouth. The new bus stops there will mean better and more convenient links for customers to rail and bus services. While there is still a shortage of bus drivers across the country, our staffing situation is improving, and we are looking ahead to a great summer.”
