DORSET has been revealed as one of the most expensive places to buy petrol in England.

Admiral Car Insurance has pinpointed the most expensive counties to refuel petrol cars amid the price increase at pumps due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began in February.

Dorset is the second most expensive place to fuel up a petrol car across the country costing a total of 167.5p per litre.

Researchers at Admiral Car Insurance calculated how much the average motorist is set to spend on petrol over the next 12 months, based on the local cost of fuel vs local median salaries. Based on motorists travelling the UK average of 7,490 miles per year, they multiplied the local cost of refuelling with petrol as of April 19 this year and compared it to the local median salary in each of England's counties.

According to figures from Admiral Car Insurance, it cost average annual mileage cost of £1,151 for drivers in Dorset.

Northumberland is the most expensive county to refuel right now with an average price of 174.7 per litre - an average annual mileage cost of £1,193.

North Yorkshire ranked as the cheapest county to get petrol at the moment with an average price of 148.4 per litre - adding up to £1,019 annually.
