FIREFIGHTERS would like to thank the community for supporting them after they held a charity car wash.

The event at Bridport Fire Station in Sea Road South was in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity.

Crews washed vehicles between 10am and 2.30pm in return for donations with a suggested minimum donation of £5 per vehicle.

Vehicles being cleaned included a mobility scooter and West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team's vehicle.

Temporary Watch Manager Lewis Dunn said: "We lost count of the total number of cars that came in for a wash that morning but we had two bays working and were washing cars non-stop.

"The local community and visitors to the town really got on board and supported us to help such a great cause. The money raised will all go to help fire service personnel and their families right across the country.

"All at Bridport Fire Station would like to thank all the kind words of support that day as the crew worked tirelessly on such a warm day, and for people's generosity. We raised a total of £1,198.39."

The Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist, lifelong support for all serving and retired members of the UK fire services community, empowering individuals to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives. It is reliant on donations from the fire and rescue community and general public to meet the £10 million cost of operating its centre and community-based services to support over 55,000 beneficiaries.
