AN EVOCATIVE new show featuring emotive flamenco dance and soul-stirring music is returning to a stage in Bridport.

International flamenco company Mi Flamenco will bring new production Echoes to Bridport Arts Centre on Thursday, June 9.

Last time Mi Flamenco performed at the arts centre was in 2017 to a sell-out audience.

This new production has been a long time coming - mainly due to Covid - which forced the company to postpone this tour four times.

Blending personal reflections of Spain with the power and poise of flamenco, these skilled dancers and musicians give audiences a very particular vision through Mi Flamenco's artistic lens.

Mi Flamenco is produced and directed by husband-and-wife team Ester and Uri Tal. Ester, the lead female dancer and artistic director, was born in Dorset and spent 14 years in Spain training and working as a flamenco dancer.

Uri is the guitarist, whose original musical compositions intertwine with more traditional forms to make this show a real treat for music-lovers everywhere. Ester and Uri bring with them other artists of the highest calibre.

Mi Flamenco (literally My Flamenco) have, at their heart, the gypsy singing from Jerez – the birthplace of flamenco singing. Their powerhouse of a singer, the characterful Luis El Mono, is “Jerez” through and through:

Joining them on tour is cellist, Nick Squires, who adds an other-worldly depth to this striking production.

Ester said: “This is a bit new for us. It is our first multi-media production, with moving and still images to enhance the mood of the music and dance and hopefully bring audiences closer to our own emotions and personal perspectives on Spain and flamenco. After training and working as a flamenco dancer in Spain for 14 years, I settled in Dorset, so to open this brand-new show back here is truly amazing.”

Mi Flamenco comes to town on Thursday, June 9. Tickets cost £16.50. Call the arts centre box office on 01308 424901 or go to www.bridport-arts.com
