RESIDENTS across Dorset are being reminded that despite the temperatures increasing outside the sea still remains cool as they are asked to take appropriate action when entering the water.
Coastguard chiefs urged that cold water shock is a ‘very real’ threat that can put people into difficulty and have offered some key advice.
A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: “The sun may be out for many of us but the sea is still bracing.
“If you’re tempted to have a dip, perhaps for the first time, please remember that the average temperature of the UK’s sea is a chilly 12 degrees.
“Cold water shock is very real and can put you in difficulties very quickly, no matter how fit you are. A little preparation can help to minimise the risks.”
Some of the advice includes not swimming alone, checking the weather and tides, ensuring warm clothes are left for after the dip and being seen when in the water.
