A SHREWSBURY man has been fined hundreds of pounds for travelling at nearly 90mph in a 50mph zone near Bridport.

Jack Ellis, whose address was given as Ruyton near Shrewsbury in Shropshire, was charged with exceeding a 50mph speed limit.

The 26-year-old had his case proven against him using the single justice procedure at Weymouth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, April 12.

The charge related to an incident on the A35 at Miles Cross where Ellis was clocked travelling at 89 mph in a 50mph zone.

As a result, the magistrates fined him £420, ordered him to pay a £42 surcharge and costs of £90.

Ellis also had nine penalty points added to his licence by the magistrates.
