A town council has revealed the latest designs for a new skatepark - and is now looking for feedback from residents.

Bridport Town Council is planning to refurbish the popular skatepark in Plottingham Playing Fields which is in need of an upgrade.

The project is a part of larger plans for the open space with proposals also including a cycle route and the installation of six solar car ports - to generate electricity - in the Plottingham car park.

The town council has earmarked £60,000 in its capital works programme for the Plottingham upgrade. It has estimated that the cost of the skatepark would be £350,000 and is hoping that it can attract a significant amount of grant funding for the development if widespread public support for the proposal is demonstrated.

Those behind the skatepark plans said they want to provide an area which can be used by 'people of all abilities'.

The council said that consultations with local skaters, BMX and scooter users have informed the multi-wheel skatepark design developed by Poole-based skate park construction company, Maverick, which will be delivering the new and improved skatepark.

Residents are being urged by the council to give their own feedback on the proposed designs before the consultation period is over.

A spokesman for Bridport Town Council said: "The skatepark at Plottingham Field has been popular with the skating community for many years. However, the skatepark is in need of refurbishment and upgrade.

"Bridport Town Council has been working with skatepark designers Maverick and young people to develop an exciting new proposal for a multi-wheel skatepark to replace the current provision.

"A public consultation has been launched to seek wider community views on the proposed multi wheel skatepark ahead of the council submitting a planning application later this year."

The design for the park has a concrete base - as opposed to the current construction of wood and metal - and features a number of quarter pipes, three 360 degree rollovers and a grind rail.

The closing date for residents to make comments is Sunday, May 13. An open public session will be held on Saturday, April 30 between 11am and 1pm to give residents the chance to view the multi-wheel skatepark plans and talk to skaters and town councillors about the proposal.

The skatepark proposal and online questionnaire can be viewed on the town council's website.
