BRIDPORT 35

WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 5

BRIDPORT Under-12s played the best game of their season so far to beat local rivals Weymouth & Portland 35-5 in the Dorset & Wilts Cup round five.

With some brilliant passes down the line in attack, the Blues put together phases of play that would have made any Premiership team proud.

This victory qualifies them to play in the Plate finals later this month.

Having won four of their five cup matches, Bridport have also claimed second overall in the West Dorset league table and will now play the other second-placed teams from the Dorset and Wiltshire region in the Plate final.

This looks likely to include Salisbury, Wimborne & Chippenham in our Plate finals day.

Bridport's achievements this season are made all the more impressive when their opposition is considered.

The Blues have only 15 registered players in a 12-a-side game, meaning their qualification for the finals is a testament to their skill and determination. They often compete with larger teams like Bournemouth who possess squads of more than 30 players.

Overall this season, including cup matches and friendlies, Bridport have played 20 matches and won 13, losing six and drawing the other.

The Blues have scored 117 tries and conceded 85 which gives them statistically the best attack but worse defence, of their contemporaries.

Bridport also have their biennial tour organised to Lege-Cap-Feret, Bordeaux in France for April 2023, and with Lege-Cap-Feret’s visit this April, it is a great time to join the club.

Bridport welcome new players of all ability at Year 7 age for their final games this Sunday and Sunday, May 1 (both 10am).

Training is held on Tuesdays from 6-7.15pm. For more details, contact under-12s coach, Simon Binks, on 07401 912915.
