NEW public artworks are coming soon to Bridport and Lyme Regis in time to welcome spring visitors .

Artists are being sought to create new works as part of an upgrade to sculpture trails in the towns, with the new additions due to appear around the middle of May.

Bridport Town Council and Lyme Regis Town Council are working with the Arts Development Company and have put out a call to south west artists for new works for both towns.

Now in its third year, Bridport Sculpture Trail features works in the town centre and along a three mile walking route around the historic market. The project has been well received by residents and visitors alike, the town council said, and this year will continue with the theme of climate emergency.

Each year a call goes out to local artists to submit new works. A panel, including town councillors, select pieces that enhance the natural beauty of the green spaces, create unique and imaginative experiences, and will add to the wellbeing of local citizens and visitors.

Bridport and Lyme Regis News:

Meanwhile in Lyme Regis artists are also being sought to create exciting new outdoor works for the public to enjoy.

New works are planned for the town's existing Langmoor and Lister Gardens Sculpture Trail in the heart of the town.

Perched above the beach, with far-reaching views to the Cobb and coastline beyond, the gardens provide a perfect outdoor gallery for a range of contemporary sculptures by established and up-and-coming local artists. The artworks are chosen to represent a cross-section of the visual arts encompassing different materials and styles.

Both trails are open to submissions from artists living in the south west of England. As part of the Bridport Sculpture Trail, the panel is particularly interested in work that responds to the climate and ecological crisis.

The deadline for submissions is 9am on Tuesday, April 19 2022 and artists can submit up to six pieces. The fee is £500 for the year, and £100 if works are kept in place for a second year.
