PUBLIC spaces in Bridport are to be brightened up with daffodils thanks to a giveaway.

Spring bulbs lift the spirits and mark the end of winter in our gardens - which is why the Bridport & District Gardening Club will be giving away up to 2,000 daffodil bulbs for planting in public spaces this autumn.

Individuals and groups are now invited to put forward places such as grass verges and public spaces (but not roundabouts) where they could plant bulbs which can be enjoyed by most people.

Secretary at Bridport & District Gardening Club Tim Gale said: "We would like to thank Groves Nurseries for their support in providing the bulbs at cost.

"The campaign has the support of the mayor and town clerk and we will consult with them on the suitability of the suggested sites before giving out the bulbs in the autumn.

"Please have a look now to see the gaps where you could plant spring bulbs - perhaps along the river valleys?"

Contact the club by email at bridportgardeningclub@gmail.com with locations (and photographs if possible) of your suggested site for planting.

  • After a two-year break, Bridport & District Gardening Club Show is back on Saturday, April 9 at the United Church Hall. It is thanks to the club's president, Monique Pasch, that this is happening.

The show is open to all and will have flower, vegetable, handicraft and cooking classes. There are also classes for children.

Refreshments will be available and the plant sale this year is in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare.

Schedules can be obtained from Monique on 01308 301272 or via bridportgardeningclub.co.uk
