FIREFIGHTERS rushed to the scene of an unattended bonfire which had gone 'out of control' yesterday.

A crew from Bridport Fire Station were called to West Road at 12.13pm yesterday (March 20) to attend an area of hedgerow on fire.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "One pump mobilised to a fire in the open on West Road, A35. Crews found an unattended bonfire that had gone out of control and set alight to a hedge.

"The fire was extinguished using hose reel jets and small tools.

"Never leave a bonfire unattended. Site well away from any other combustible materials. Don’t light on windy days. And have a garden hose in case the fire does start to go out of control."
