A 65-YEAR-OLD woman who fell on a stone pier was taken to hospital after she fractured her wrist and suffered suspected lower back and pelvis injuries.

Lyme Regis Coastguard and Beer Coastguard were called to help an older woman who had fallen on The Cobb in Lyme Regis at 1.23pm on Thursday, March 17.

A paramedic cared for the casualty before she was taken to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital for further treatment.

During the incident,the Coastguard teams were also tasked to help a paraglider who crashed on Eype Beach.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis Coastguard said: "The Lyme Regis Coastguard team was tasked to a 65-year-old female who had fallen over on The Cobb.

"She had fractured her wrist and had suspected lower back and pelvic injuries. Immediate casualty care was provided and with no immediate update available from the ambulance service, the casualty was stabilised and carefully packaged for a carry back to the lifeboat station. Beer Coastguard team were also tasked to assist.

"A paramedic from the RNLI continued with the casualty care and pain relief before the patient was transferred to Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.

"During this incident, the Coastguard team received another tasking to help a paraglider who had crashed on Eype Beach. The Beer team were redeployed to Eype to help our colleagues from West Bay. We would like to thank the RNLI for the use of their boathouse during this incident.

"This allowed the coastguards to keep the casualty in a safe, dry, and discreet environment. We wish the casualties from both incidents a speedy recovery.
